Japan nominates Kazuo Ueda as next BoJ governor
Analyst believes “half-insider” Ueda has balanced views on monetary policy
The Japanese government nominated academic Kazuo Ueda as the next Bank of Japan governor today (February 14).
Ueda, 71, was a member of the BoJ’s policy board between 1998 and 2005. Before that, he was an economics professor at the University of Tokyo, specialising in monetary economics.
The academic will succeed incumbent Haruhiko Kuroda, whose second five-year term ends on April 8.
The government also nominated Ryozo Himino, former head of Japan’s banking regulator, and BoJ executive
