Papua New Guinea names new acting governor
Prime minister says previous acting head had served past legal limit for interim officials
Elizabeth Genia has been appointed acting governor of the central bank, succeeding Benny Popoitai, who has been in the role since December 2021.
Genia is currently assistant governor for corporate services.
Papua New Guinea adopted amendments to its central bank law in December 2021, which limited the governor to two four-year terms. As incumbent Loi Bakani had been in office since 2010, the new act removed him from office, with Popoitai becoming acting governor.
