Biden re-nominates Powell as Fed chair

Lael Brainard nominated as vice-chair, to take over from Richard Clarida

US president Joe Biden announced he would nominate Jerome Powell for a second term as chair of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors today (November 22), ending a period of feverish speculation over the role.

In the same announcement, the White House said Biden would nominate Lael Brainard to serve as vice-chair, taking over the monetary policy-focused position from Richard Clarida.
