Bank of England names new chief economist

The Bank of England named former European Central Bank official Huw Pill as its new chief economist today (September 1), succeeding Andy Haldane.

Pill will take up the role, which includes membership of the BoE’s monetary policy committee, on September 6. Haldane, his predecessor, spent seven years in the role and made a number of widely discussed interventions on subjects including monetary policy and banking supervision.
