People: Banque de France deputy nominated to EU Commission

France: Banque de France deputy governor Sylvie Goulard has been nominated for a commissioner role in the European Union, Reuters reports.
French President Emmanuel Macron’s hope is for Goulard to oversee a major portfolio such as trade or climate change, the news outlet reports. The next president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will be negotiating the portfolios for commissioners – excluding the UK – in the coming weeks.
