Turkish president fires deputy governors
Move appears to be Erdoğan’s latest bid to impose low interest rates despite rising inflation
Turkey’s president sacked two of the central bank’s deputy governors in what appears to be the latest move in his campaign to dictate monetary policy.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with central bank governor Şahap Kavcıoğlu late on October 13, locally-based reporters said. He then dismissed deputy governors Uğur Namık Küçük and Semih Tumen.
He also dismissed an external member of the monetary policy committee, Abdullah Yavas, an economist who lives in the US. Some observers said that one
