EU court throws out Syrian governor’s sanctions challenge
Central bank governor will continue to have movement restricted
Adib Mayaleh, governor of the Central Bank of Syria, will remain under sanctions imposed by the European Union in 2012, after a court rejected his challenge to the original ruling.
In its judgement on Adib Mayaleh v Council of the EU, the EU's General Court concluded Mayaleh had provided "economic and financial support" to the Syrian government, that the European Council had provided clear reasons for the sanctions, and the sanctions were justified and proportionate.
