Lagarde warns against easing regulations

Policy-makers must resist pressures to ease financial regulations, International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagarde said in a speech on February 28.

“We need further efforts to address the potential dangers of ‘too-big-to-fail’ as banks become even bigger and more complex,” Lagarde said. In the US, the top five banks now hold 45% of total banking assets, up from 40% in 2007, she warned.
