African countries should turn to fiscal policies in order to survive low commodity prices

African countries will have to rely "primarily" on domestic policies and financing if they are to deal with the slowdown in growth caused by the decline in commodity prices, according to a paper published by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

Challenges of low commodity prices for Africa, written by Benedicte Christensen, explains that, with commodity prices falling and market expectations pointing to "little reversal in the foreseeable future", macroeconomic policies in the region
