European Commission proposes uniform cost for trans-EU euro payments
Dombrovskis also calls for EU-wide transparency on currency conversions
The European Commission is proposing that cross-border payments made in euros in European Union countries outside the eurozone should have the same cost as domestic payments.
It is also calling for a cap on charges for conversions between the different currencies used by EU member states, until EU-wide transparency standards are in place.
“Currently, only Europeans living in the euro area countries benefit from this right,” said the EC’s vice-president Valdis Dombrovskis in a speech on March
