ECB cautions Slovenia over ‘critical infrastructure’ draft law

Legislation should not encroach on central bank’s regulation of payments systems, says ECB

The European Central Bank (ECB) approves of most aspects of a draft Slovene law making the country’s central bank part of a national plan to safeguard “critical infrastructure”, but is also expressing some doubts.

The ECB sets out its position in an official opinion published on August 14. The law identifies areas of Slovenia’s infrastructure as critical, including the financial sector, but the ECB fears it may encroach on aspects of the Bank of Slovenia’s oversight work.
