
BoE museum showcases virtual reality Phillips machine
VR version of Moniac brings 144kg hydraulic economic model to wider audience

At an event at the Bank of England on March 20, Bill Phillips’ two metre tall, hydraulic economics machine was dropped into the middle of the floor, in front of where the governor usually gives press conferences.
Except this was the virtual reality (VR) version, streamed from an Apple headset, not the 144kg original. So although it looked highly realistic, roared as it was switched on like the original and could be operated with a pinch of the fingers, it was also weightless and could be walked
