Rwanda to issue new banknotes

New 500 and 1,000 franc notes will have new security features and design elements

The National Bank of Rwanda will replace the country’s two lowest-denomination banknotes on February 11 with updated versions, the central bank governor has announced.

Both the 500 and 1,000 franc ($1.12) notes will be replaced with new designs that integrate new security features. The current denominations will remain legal tender and continue to circulate.
