Liikanen anticipates more changes to come from digitisation

New actors in payments system have made use of existing instruments, but this could change, governor says

Many new actors that have appeared in the payments system in recent years are still making use of traditional instruments, Bank of Finland governor Erkki Liikanen said today (May 10) – although this could change.

He told an audience in Helsinki the effects of digitalisation had been "powerfully reflected in the payments market in recent years". However, new actors were still using existing instruments, such as card payments and credit transfers, Liikanen said.
