BoJ’s Iwata says QQE is a break with history

Strong monetary easing is here to stay, deputy stresses

The Bank of Japan's (BoJ) programme of qualitative and quantitative easing (QQE) marks a new determination by the central bank to break the "deflationary mindset", deputy governor Kikuo Iwata said today.

In a speech to business leaders in Miyagi Prefecture, which bore the brunt of the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Iwata said QQE was a break from the past. He said previous efforts to boost inflation had been hampered by the perception that policy would soon revert to business as usual
