Déjà vu and monetary policy: Lockhart’s recent comments

Dennis Lockhart, the president of the Atlanta Federal Reserve, on March 7 assessed the current state of the economy and challenges facing the Fed. Lockhart noted his views did not reflect the policy position of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) or the Fed in general. But based on Fed policy, official statements and speeches given by Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the Fed, it is clear that Lockhart's comments represent the FOMC consensus.
