Central Bank of Barbados govt financing up 25% last fiscal year
Central bank continues to finance government deficit, despite IMF warnings; expects to still buy government debt, but at "lower levels"
The Central Bank of Barbados expects to continue financing the government, but buy fewer sovereign bonds than before, it has told Central Banking. This follows the announcement that it provided a total of 427.5 million Bajan dollars ($213.75 million) during the last fiscal year.
The figure was released in the bank's most recent quarterly economic bulletin, published on May 10 – three weeks later than planned, which it attributed to a conflict with the governor's schedule.
