Angola’s president replaces two deputy governors
Two department heads promoted to deputy governor
Angola's president has overhauled the upper echelons of the country's central bank again, replacing the two deputy governors and three members of the board.
According to the state news agency, Manuel Antonio Tiago Dias and Suzana Maria de Fátima Camacho Monteiro were both appointed as deputy governors on May 11, replacing Cristina Florencia Dias Van-Dunem and Gualberto Lima Campos.
Dias confirmed his appointment in an email to Central Banking. Neither the central bank nor the office of the president responded to requests for comment.
No explanation was given on why Van-Dunem and Campos were dismissed. Both had been appointed to their roles in 2015. Van-Dunem joined the bank in 1999, holding a variety of posts before being appointed general manager in 2011.
Campos was new to the central bank when he joined as deputy last year. He had previously served as an economist at the World Bank and an adviser to the International Monetary Fund.
Their successors will assume their roles with immediate effect, and were sworn in at the presidential palace today (May 12), the news agency reported. Both Monteiro and Dias were internal candidates and headed up the departments for economic research and statistics respectively.
In the same decree, the agency says, the president also dismissed three members of the bank's board – António Manuel Ramos da Cruz, Victor Manuel da Costa and Manuel António. They will be replaced by Gilberto Moisés Moma Capeça, Soma Machel Januário Silva and Ana Paula Rodrigues Sponsor.
This will be the second major change at the central bank in 2016, after the president replaced the governor in March. Valter Filipe da Silva now holds the role.
