BoE searches for better data on macro-financial links

Central bank hopes better data will help crack the productivity puzzle

The UK needs better data if it is to grasp the full importance of access to finance and the role of capital accumulation in shaping the performance of the real economy, a discussion paper published on April 8 by the Bank of England says.

The UK government has instructed the Bank of England to help break the enigma of the country's productivity performance, which has stubbornly diverged from historical trends. This paper represents the first output from the central bank's efforts.
