IMF gains one deputy managing director but loses another

Lagarde says new CAO will bring a ‘strategic mindset’ to the role

Christine Lagarde will appoint Carla Grasso as deputy managing director and chief administrative officer, the IMF announced today, as it looks to improve its operational management.

Her appointment was announced shortly after the IMF revealed that another deputy, Naoyuki Shinohara, would leave the Fund at the end of his term on February 28.

The two moves are unrelated. Chief administrative officer is a new role at the IMF, designed to improve the "internal operational and administrative
