Iraq’s Al-Shebibi warns foreign assets at risk of confiscation

Sinan Al-Shebibi, the governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, has warned that a court ruling to place the central bank under cabinet supervision may threaten to leave its assets abroad open to claims.

Agence France-Presse (AFP), a French news agency, reported Al-Shebibi on Tuesday as saying Iraq would "lose its ability to protect its savings overseas" due to the decision and that the central bank's independence was "the only guarantee in order to protect the financial resources of the central bank
