BOJ eyes extension of settlement system operation

The Bank of Japan said Monday it is considering operating its settlement system until 5.30pm, instead of an earlier-planned 5pm, on days for issuance of certain government securities.

The central bank is considering the step for discount notes, treasury bills and financing bills in line with the January introduction of a real-time gross settlement system, in which interbank fund deals will be settled one by one.

The BOJ said the measure under consideration may remain in place until a real-time
