National Bank of NZ names chief economist

NEW ZEALAND - The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has appointed John McDermott as its new chief economist. He will start his new assignment on 20 August.

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand's (RBNZ) manager of forecasting said on 4 July he is leaving the central bank to become chief economist at the commercial National Bank of New Zealand.

John McDermott said he would take up his role at National Bank on 20 August, after the RBNZ's next monetary policy statement on 15 August.
