Nigerian court orders release of former governor

Lawyers argue that Emefiele’s month-long detention is unlawful

A Nigerian judge ordered one of the security services to release the country’s former central bank governor today (July 14), Nigerian media reports.

On June 9, newly elected president Bola Tinubu suspended Godwin Emefiele from his post, and he was arrested the next day. The Department of State Services (DSS), which reports to the president, has detained Emefiele for over a month.
