Coene to take the helm at Belgian central bank
Luc Coene, the vice-governor of the National Bank of Belgium, will head the central bank following the departure of Guy Quaden at the end of March.
The Belgian government confirmed his appointment for a term of five years on Friday. Coene, 63, has been vice-governor since 2003, when he replaced Marcia De Wachter, now a director at the central bank. Before becoming vice governor he was secretary to the council of minsters, and before that, served as chef de cabinet to the Belgian prime minister.
