Record inflation growth in the UK

Inflation in the UK recorded the biggest ever month to month increase in December according to government figures released on Tuesday, strengthening the hand of those who do not want the Bank of England's £200 billion ($327 billion) asset purchase programme extended.

The consumer price index soared to an annualised 2.9% in the final month of 2009, well above consensus forecasts, and a full percentage point higher than the November figure.
