New challenges for central bankers

In this speech, Ajith Nivard Cabraal, governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, says central bankers need to look beyond a single price index in the objectives to ensure economic and price stability.

"There is a school of thought that suggests the sole objective of central banks should be price stability," Cabraal suggest. "Accordingly many countries have adopted the inflation targeting approach in their conduct of monetary policy.
