Ex-RBA chief joins Woolworths board

Woolworths has appointed former Reserve Bank of Australia governor Ian Macfarlane to its board, the company said in a statement on Tuesday 30 January.

After a decade as head of the RBA, this is Macfarlane's first major commercial board appointment since stepping down in September.

Macfarlane is widely credited with creating and maintaining the strong monetary policy that has underpinned the last 14 years of economic growth.

In 2002 he was named central banker of the year by Euromoney magazine.
