Banking sector can improve financial inclusion: RBI's Thorat

Usha Thorat, a deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, last Wednesday discussed financial inclusion in mainstream banking, and how information technology can improve access to finance in the rural parts of India.

At a seminar in Washington, Thorat said financial inclusion was not based on the principle of equality alone, but also on access to affordable banking services, which was a precondition for growth with stability.
