HKMA's Yue on Islamic finance

Greater efforts must be made to establish a level playing-field between the conduct of Islamic finance business and conventional activities, Eddie Yue, a deputy chief executive at the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, noted.

This, Yue said, included a review of tax laws in Hong Kong. The government was now conducting a review "to ensure that Islamic financial transactions will not be disadvantaged simply because of their special structure to cater for compliance with the Shariah law," Yue said.
