Inflation still below target in Israel

The Bank of Israel's inflation report for the first half of 2005 shows inflation below the lower limit of the target range, despite reductions in interest rates at the beginning of the year.

The consumer price index rose by 0.5 percent in the first half of the year, while the rise over the twelve months to June was only 0.3 percent. The target for annual inflation is between 1 and 3 percent.

The main explanation given for the low inflation is the slower-than-expected depreciation of the Israeli
