RBA's Battellino appointed deputy governor

The Australian government appointed Ric Battellino as deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia on Wednesday 14 February for a five-year term.

The appointment fills the vacancy after the previous deputy Glenn Stevens was promoted to governor in September last year.

Battellino has been the central bank's assistant governor of financial markets since 1994.

Treasurer Peter Costello also appointed former National Australia Bank Ltd chairman and current chairman of BlueScope Steel Ltd, Graham
