A case for the renminbi's inclusion in the IMF’s SDR basket

The constituents that comprise special drawing rights (SDR), the international reserve asset created by the International Monetary Fund in 1969 to supplement official reserves of member countries, are up for review in October this year. The SDR’s value is based on a basket, currently consisting of four major international currencies: the US dollar, the euro, sterling and yen. The IMF reviews the currency composition of the SDR basket every five years, guided by several long-standing principles
