The Central Bank of Liberia is establishing a “robust” credit reference system to help address the issue of non-performing loans (NPLs).

In a speech given by president George Weah on January 28, he said the stock of NPLs remains a “major challenge” for the banking system.

According to data from the central bank, the percentage of NPLs to total loans stood at 16.3% in April 2018, but declined to 12.3% in July.
