Ukraine central bank awaits wider regulatory powers

Bank has pushed through ‘unprecedented’ clean-up, analyst says

Ukraine's central bank will gain powers to regulate the country's non-bank financial sector if a draft law is passed by the country's parliament.

As a first step towards this, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) announced on August 27 that it will now publish data on banking groups, including companies from outside the traditional banking sector.

The central bank has made "unprecedented progress" in cleaning up the country's banking sector, but needs further powers to tackle problems in the wider
