Somalia appoints first female governor to scandal-hit central bank

The Somali government has appointed Yussur Abrar as the new governor of the Central Bank of Somalia, making her the country's first female central bank governor.

Abrar joins the central bank at a particularly difficult time. Civil war has limited the central bank's geographic coverage and on occasion forced it to close, and the country's institutions continue to suffer from corruption.
