Julio Velarde was named governor of the Central Bank of Peru on September, 2006. A graduate in economics from Lima’s University of the Pacific, Velarde has held senior positions in the business and public sectors. He holds a doctorate in economics from Brown University and was professor of economics at the University of the Pacific from 1986–2003, when he was also named dean of the economics department. He was chairman of the Latin American Reserve Fund from 2004, a post he held until 2006. He
