Jaime Caruana took up the position of general manager of the BIS on April 1, 2009. As the bank’s chief executive officer, he carries out the policy determined by the board of directors and is responsible to the board for the management of the bank. Previously, he was financial counsellor to the managing director as well as director of the monetary and capital markets department at the International Monetary Fund. From 2000 to 2006, he was the governor of the Bank of Spain.
