Most people visit central banks’ websites via search engines

Clicks on social media platforms drive around 7% of traffic to central banks’ websites

Central banks’ websites get more than half of their traffic from search engines on average, data from the Communications Benchmarks 2023 shows.

For 31 central banks that responded to the question, search engines accounted for 55.1% of their website traffic on average.

Direct traffic took up 33.1% of the overall traffic of central banks’ websites. Direct traffic occurs when visitors arrive directly on a website, such as by entering a URL in their browsers or through a bookmark.
