Market ‘exuberance’ a problem for central banks – Gopinath
Easier financial conditions may be coming too early, IMF official says
The “last few months of exuberance” in markets may have loosened financial conditions too quickly, Gita Gopinath warned today (January 16).
The International Monetary Fund’s deputy managing director said a widespread expectation of rate cuts by major central banks as soon as April seemed “a bit premature”. She warned central banks have not yet completed the job of bringing inflation down to target.
